It’s still there as of this writing. Take it and write or draw something if you’d like. :)
Chances are good you're on your phone standing next to the dragon going "What the heck is this sign?" If so, take a picture of it and leave a comment on this blog when you can! Feel free to put something in the dragon's mouth, play with what's in there, pose with it, anything you think is cool or funny or interesting. We'll watch for it and write it into the evolving dragon drop story. Have fun!

UPDATE: Gonzales Chavez left a comment and we want to apologize if we hurt or disrespected anyone’s feelings. We also want to clarify a few things. We’ve lived in this neighborhood for approaching a year and we often see people stopping to take pictures of the nice house across the street and the dragon on the steps. This gave us an idea to experiment with enhancing that local experience and interact with our neighborhood.
While the stories about the dragon that you find here are usually playful there is nothing playful about this post, and it certainly was not meant to be framed that way. It is documentation of an event that happened here. There have been several accidents coming over that hilltop and we thought people should know. We wish everyone the best and hope that’s the last time we ever see anything like this.
Much love and respect.

Reality Alert: Last night there was a car accident in front of the dragon. We went outside shortly after hearing a loud crash and found many people standing around a flipped-over truck as the police, fire trucks, and ambulance arrived. We hope everyone’s OK. This is a string of pictures and video from the scene:
It was interesting to see many people from the block out in one place. Double hello if you’re checking out this site after seeing the sign last night. It would be nice to meet again under different circumstances. If you have any information about the accident please let us know, we weren’t able to find anything online.
Hokay. So. To recap from the start very quickly:
We put some gold in the dragon’s mouth, it fell out, we found a tiny umbrella, we put the gold back in with the umbrella, it rained but the gold stayed dry, we maid a sign and stuck the gold on it, a neighbor brought a blingy dragon grill, it was awesome, someone stole it, we suspect Dean and/or a disapproving rabbit after finding broken glasses and a carrot, the cops were no help, we found magic keys then tried to make our own, the dragon may be mad about that, something was hidden in the park and we found dragon armor, then someone named L.F. Gruthernaby left a poem and a mushroom for the dragon.
Got it?
I had thought it was going to be a weird day yesterday when we saw some pigeons hanging out on the corner working on some sort of crazy technology that they wouldn’t tell us about. Any idea what it is? Does it look like it involves time travel?

But check this out from last night, it’s weirder than pigeon technologists. Even though our intrepid commenters (***) identified the mushroom gift as edible portobello we were being cautious before feeding it to the dragon. We had it tucked away on top of the fridge, but suddenly, some time during the night, it escape and ran to the dragon and into its mouth of its own accord. Check it out:
Near as we can tell it has expanded the dragon’s perception of the city so that everything, organic or inanimate, is alive and with identity, and he can see pasts back to the very start of San Francisco and futures to its very end.
It may take a little time to coax it all out, but we will report on what it says it sees.
To be continued, and thanks for playing along…
Quite the weekend at the dragon drop. The cops came by to investigate the theft of the dragon’s grill.

I was told, “Son, if I had a nickel for every dragon grill theft in this town I’d have five cents. I’m sorry I don’t have time to help you.”
*le sigh*
We discovered ancient fossilized keys for opening forgotten old doors:

and enacted magic rituals to try and mint our own, to what end we do not yet know. (Is the dragon really angry at us for doing this?)
Shadowy figures led us to Dolores Park:

where things were hidden:

and dragon armor found.

And just this morning there was a poem and a package for the dragon:

reading:

Dragon,
There is always
a zone of snuggles
There is always
an area of affection
There is always
space for love
There is always
ROOM for MUSH!
~L.F. Gruthernaby
p.s. especially behind signs
Looking behind the sign

we found a brown paper bag

with a giant mushroom inside.

We brought it inside and investigated it.

but remain uncertain of its mushroom kind. If you know, please let us know. Perhaps it is for the dragon to eat. But who is to say what effects it might have on the creature?
Also of interest, a routine googling for the leaver’s name returns NOTHING. As they say on the slopes, Gruthernaby is virgin powpow.

The plot just called. It says it may be thickening…
So I woke up today to find someone had taken the dragon’s new grill!

And very mysteriously on the steps there was a carrot

and some broken glasses.

One can only imagine what must have taken place during the night…

Post your conspiracy theories in the comments. I think maybe a near-sighted rabbit gang is behind this.
UPDATE!
I think maybe this disapproving rabbit named Walter didn’t approve of the grill and did something about it.

Disapproval level: Orange.
DOUBLE UPDATE!!
It may be Dean, or Dean may be the rabbit. It’s hard to tell but this comment made me suspicious. They always return to the scene of the crime…

The other night I was on the porch in the wet dark watching reflections of the traffic light turn from red

to green

with the cars going by

and a girl stopped and said hello, and I said hello, and she said she lived down the street and would bring something back for the dragon drop. Her name is Mackenzie.
The next day I worked on a proper sign for the dragon drop. I drew out the letters

and made a nice mess filling them in

and adding other things like big red arrows

and our friend the Gold and rainbows and bling and more words like “FRIENDLY FUN EXCITEMENT! STORIES! LOOT!”

and “take a picture it’ll last longer”.

Luke put a pizza box and sandwiches on it

and I said, “Hey!” and put it up outside for people to see when they walk by.

And then just this morning Mackenzie came back with a little blingy grill for the dragon’s mouth that was so bright she had to shut her eyes.

Here it is:

In the afternoon I saw on Foursquare that my friend Amit was down the street so I went and got him and then Nora showed up too.

And Amit and I checked in from The Dragon Drop on Foursquare and he took pictures

because you know what happens when you take a picture…
So I went outside this afternoon and saw the dragon’s gold was gone!

But then I looked around and saw it had blown down the street.

And sitting right by it was a little blue cocktail umbrella.

So I put the gold back in the dragon’s mouth and covered it with the umbrella.

Then I went out for a while and it started to rain. When I came home I was happy that the gold had blown off because otherwise I wouldn’t have found the umbrella and it would have gotten wet.

THE END
(or is it…)
If you look in the far upper-left and far lower-right of this page you’ll see a few mystery buttons. Up top you’ve got Cornify and Draw Here. Hitting the Cornify button plops unicorns, rainbows, and sparkles on the page. Keep hitting it for happy fun enjoyment:

The Draw Here button pops up a drawing tool so you can scribble, doodle, and write things on the page:

Down at the bottom is the Firef.ly button which lets you pick a mouse cursor character and see the cursors of other people here at the same time who’ve also hit the button. You can start typing anywhere on the page to leave messages, and you can scroll back through the timeline to see what messages other people left earlier:

HAVE FUN!
It’s funny, I woke up today as two of Nicki’s friends who’d been staying here were on their way out to the airport. The door was still open and this woman with a dog and a child in stroller rolled up and started cooing at the dragon. I think I surprised her when I bounded out on the steps with a “the dragon drop dot com!” Haha smile, you’re on The Dragon Drop TV!

The gold is still in its mouth, but someone added a flower:

I just put a bling cut-out that was printed up by our friend Kroosh and a link to the site on the dragon drop. Let’s see if we catch any fish. Double hi if you got here from the street! Please come back and put something in the dragon’s mouth.
